The course deals with SAP’s market leading Data Warehousing solution SAP NetWeaver BW 7.5 on HANA.
This course deals primarily with data acquisition in SAP BW on HANA. The contents of the course SAP BW on HANA - Data Flow and BusinessObjects Analysis are prerequisite to this course.
As a first step, the theoretical basics of the SAP BW on HANA system are introduced. Connected to this theoretical introduction, the acquired knowledge is applied practically to a living SAP system by solving case studies. The case studies are performed in an SAP education system. The used IDES (Internet Demonstration and Evaluation System) represents a fully developed model enterprise. It is based on the standard SAP ERP system and offers the corporate structure and the data basis to accomplish extensive analyses in the SAP BW system. The participants learn how to work with the SAP BW-on-HANA system using the user interfaces SAP GUI and SAP HANA Studio. For SAP BusinessObjects several Reporting Tools are provided.
The course consists of two parts: In the first part of the course the participants will deal with the different possibilities of extracting data from different source systems into the SAP BW on HANA system in order to make them available to downstream processes and analyzes.
Initially, the focus is on SAP's own source systems (for example, SAP ERP) and the interfaces provided for this purpose, SAP Service API (SAPI) and Operational Data Provisioning (ODP). The participants will create their own DataSources in the SAP source system, replicate metadata in SAP BW and extract the data to SAP BW. In addition, SAP HANA's own interfaces for data acquisition (Smart Data Integration) and real-time data acquisition will be presented. Subsequently, the focus will be on further data extraction methods and interfaces of SAP BW on HANA. Here the interfaces File, DB Connect, Universal Data Integration, Web Service and Staging BAPI are presented and used. Another aspect of data retrieval is Delta Management in SAP BW on HANA, which is explained and used for the different data acquisition methods. Finally, the Open Hub Destination – an interface that allows data to be sent from SAP BW to downstream systems – is introduced.
The second part of the course deals with different tools of the SAP BusinessObjects product portfolio. First of all, the Information Design Tool for the creation of data universes as the basis for analyzes and reports is discussed. Afterwards, the BusinessObjects Reporting tools BI Launch Pad, Explorer, Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports are dealt with.
